In 2013, at 61 years of age, I purchased 2.77 long-neglected acres in Asheville, North Carolina. My goal was to design and build a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified home. Along with SouthLight Builders as the contractor, I hired Nancy Duffy, founder of Muddy Boots Garden Design, to implement a multi-year garden design and installation.
In less than seven years, the results are nothing short of stunning. The purpose of this website is to introduce you to the garden I call Devotion, including its formal gardens and the extensive native woodland gardens.
In 2020, during the year of Covid-19 sequestering, I wrote the book Devotion: Diary of an Appalachian Garden to share my insights and meditations about gardening. Designed by the incomparable Stacy Wakefield Forte, this book is a visual treasure to savor.
Here you can also peruse my blog about all things gardening and exploring these Blue Ridge Mountains.
I would love to meet you at the posted events where I will be talking or signing books.
Thank you for your interest and support.
